My love-hate relationship with Dora the Explorer

If any of you have a 3 year old you will understand...Dora the Explorer, my friend, and nemesis(look at definition 2...that is exactly what I mean).

I bought this pair of Dora slippers for Christmas. My girl wears them anywhere I will allow her to get away with wearing them; to the store, the library, and on this day...her dance class!

PeePs loves Dora. So to be the person I am...I'm going to tell you first why I LOVE Dora.

1. Dora the Explorer runs for 30 minutes. My daughter then, is riveted to the T.V. screen for the full 1/2 hour. It's great, because it's free and I don't have to pay a babysitter!

2. Dora the Explorer teaches my daughter Spanish, and where I live, it is becoming a necessity to be bilingual...and thanks to Dora and Boots the Monkey, she is well on her way.

3. It is easy to bribe my daughter into doing things because good ol' Dora gifts get her to do practically anything...Thanks the HEAVENS above...because my daughter can be EXTREMELY stubborn!

I know what you are thinking...'Her? Stubborn?'...looks are deceiving people...the girl won't budge if she puts her mind to something...unless I promise her a Dora gift, but I use that in only the most EXTREME cases...like when I want her to play StarFall on the computer why I blog.

Okay, I hate to do this, but these are the reasons why I HATE Dora...

1. Dora the Explorer is ONLY 30 minutes long. Just when I sit her down to watch Dora and then get across the room, log into blogger, start my new post...my daughter is screaming at me, "Dora is over Mommy...I want to watch Dora". Then I have to get back up, which is hard when you are lazy like me and don't like to move much, and go and turn on Dora again. (I have it recorded on DVR)

2. My daughter and I now have a language barrier. She will say, "Mom I want to wear pantalones!"--and I'm like, "huh?". Or she will point up and say, "Arriba!" Where then I have to say, "PeePs, what are you pointing at?" Because I think she is trying to say whatever she is pointing at...when she is actually saying UP in Spanish! This can go on and on...

3. I have to bribe my daughter to do things sometimes! And I hate buying anything with characters on them, especially clothes, but I LOVE to shop for clothes for PeePs, and she LOVES clothes. So my dilemma is I have had to buy a few things, like the slippers, that have DORA on them...and I shudder everytime!

Dora was big in our house, too... my girls have moved on to Hannah Montana & iCarly (and they're only 5 & 7!!) But they could watch the same Dora episodes over and over and over...

At least your three-year-old SON doesn't want to wear his Dora shoes everywhere. Believe me, it could be worse.

Thanks for making my day, by the way. Loved your thought.

Loved this cute post of your daughter in her Dora shoes. Dora is a hit with my grand kids...all of them! At least none of my grandsons have Dora shoes! LOL

Your daughter is adorable!!!

I really dislike Dora and even cringe when I hear her theme song!

I will even go as far to say I can tolerate Sponge Bob more than Dora.

Am I bad?

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

All my boys loved Dora when they were little (the 5 yr old still likes Diego) and my daughter loves "Dori" as he calls her. My kids actually respond better to "!Vamanos!" than to "Let's Go!" - even the older kids still.

Too funny on the mixing of Spanish in to mom's confusion!

Somewhat related story: We have a couple in our ward who are natives of Argentina, and their little girl is being raised bi-lingual; they speak Spanish at home but have taught her to speak English in public. My daughter took Spanish in 9&10th grades, and once when she went to babysit, tried out her meager Espanol skills on this little girl. Once the kid heard Spanish from my daughter, she stopped speaking English altogether for the rest of the night! LOL

HAHAHAHAHA Thats freaking adorable!!!

I can't wait to see what my bub will take to! Will it be the wiggles? Blues clues? Dora the explorer?

Or will it be like its Mummy and take to HORROR MOVIES!!

Yep! from the age of 3 I always loved the blood and gore! Nuts aye!

But I know what you mean! And it's the character clothing that are the MOST expensive!!! xx

ROFL, that picture is priceless!!!
It's the same here but with Diego, whom I don't really care for at all. But I guess it could be worse, could be Barney...
Arriba, Arriba!

Oh my, Your daughter is beautiful! Dora is Ok, but I think it should run for at least an hour!
PS. Loving my new camera, thanks for the recommendation. I think I may need a class though. I am lost.

You crack me up. I have a sneaky suspicion that if you started writing a book it would take off you and you would be the next Stephanie Meyer. I think you should go for it. I totally pilforkate food off of Brian's plate. My favorite is when he prepares his pb&js just perfectly, takes a pee break and then comes back to the cutout of his sandwich, just the size of my bite (which happens to be grand in size!) Good luck with the chocolate. I keep thinking I'm going to kick it into high gear one of these days but can't seem to do it. It's a little depressing.

You have nothing to complain about. When my daughter was 2 she fell in love with Dora. She is now 4 and over Dora, her 2 year old brother on the other hand "LOBES" Dora. And we still have all the paraphernalia from the girl for him. Imagine walking your 2 year old son into your sisters baptist church for bible study on Wednesday mornings with him wearing his Dora backpack (pink) and a racoon hat. My husband has tried talking him into Deigo which he likes but he still "Lobes" Dora.
