DCar...the next big Chef!

Okay OKay I get it... NObody has a solution to the bully question...i'll just write it up to one of those unsolvable mysteries!
March 30, 2008

I am all about letting your kids discover what they love to do! DCar LOVES to cook. It was a special time for him and I to cook before Daddy would come home for dinner! Last Christmas DCar even went as far as asking for an "Easy Bake" oven...but he wouldn't let us tell anyone because he was embarrassed it was purple and pink...I'm thinking I might need to send in a letter and tell Easy Bake people to make an Easy Bake Oven for boys and stop the discrimination...down with stereotypes...and all that :)

Well I bought him a kids cook book and he wanted to cook for the whole family. So we picked an Italian dish because that "his favorite kind of food" and baked this wonderful FAKE BAKED ZITI! He was so proud and he did it almost all himself except for when I had to help around the stove! No kidding...the kid has skills...it was yummy! I think I will steal that recipe for my quick and easy don't have dinner ready yet, need to get it ready before MountainSport Man comes home from work and has to go to school to work on homework or go to a church meeting, need a 30 minute or less meal...kind of thing!

Seriously can't snap a shot without Peeps whining that she wants one taken of her cause DCar can't do anything without his shadow demanding the same! This could be a problem...but I'll deal with that later...

Why? I just don't get it...really I don't...

March 28, 2008
I went to an "8 Cow Women" activity last night. (If you need for me to explain the activity email me at blokthoughts@gmail.com, but it's not important to this particular thought and I have a tendency to over indulge in stories which would make this long story EXTRA long and I would hate to do THAT...okay I wouldn't, but I'm thinking of you okay!) I had some friends there...I know BIG surprise..and we got to talking about something that has always boggled my mind. Probably because it's just not in my nature or character to think this way and because I have never personally seen it at work. What we talked about was being "bullied" or "picked on". I don't see why it exist or why somebody would waste their time on it...or get a thrill from it? It's so foreign to me? Plus, why do it when you are suppose to be an adult or at least trying to act like an adult...do you understand what I mean? WHY? Seriously, I don't get it? I can count myself lucky I guess because I don't ever remember being bullied or picked on unless it was by someone I knew loved me...and then it wasn't really being picked on as much as it was a joke. Don't get me wrong, I had my share of the normal teasing kids get while growing up...believe me...I have the freckles to prove it! But nothing was ever said that, to me, was so vicious that I couldn't get over it or dismiss it because it was usually said by someone that I didn't particularly care about their opinion. But I can honestly say that I didn't have someone picking on me or bullying me EVERYDAY...I'm not asking for a pat on the back...its just a fact.

One of my friends while going to a specialty school after high school was a target for a few girls that was in the same class as her. They did horrible things to her and said horrible things about her. You would be appalled if you knew who this friend was. She is amazing! She's beautiful inside and out, she's incredibly smart, and always seems to be thinking of others. I don't know of very many people that DON'T like her, in fact she was the student body president her senior year at her high school! To say the least she was pretty popular! I asked her why they targeted her? She said it was because they didn't like cheerleaders? huh? I would have asked them if they knew how to spell I-D-I-O-T-I-C? I mean are they SERIOUS??? That's ridiculous. I started laughing because I knew then that she had to be telling a joke...nobody would cause someone grief EVERYDAY because they were a cheerleader in high school? Would they? She in fact wasn't joking...that was their reason for doing mean things such as boxing her car in with their cars so that she couldn't go home...keep in mind these girls were not even in high school anymore...they were supposedly college age? And on top of that...my friend was NEVER a cheerleader in high school! I thought that stuff just happened in Hollywood...I thought they overexaggerated the movie "MEAN GIRLS", but in this case she had her own personal experience with it! It made me so mad. It also made me think about Sam.

I had to break up this somewhat serious and depressing subject with an attempt from PeePs to give me her best mean face!!! It's totally appropiate...goes with topic at hand and gives you an "ahh cute" moment!

now ready to continue...

I worked as an administrative assistant for a certified institute. At this job I met a woman we will call Laura. She was quiet and rarely talked to anyone, but she was one of the best students at the institute, she had never missed class even though she was a single Mom and worked on top of going to school...so we were worried about her when she hadn't been to school for a week... well I was worried about her. Through the 1st semester of classes I had noticed that she didn't have many friends and so I decided that I would try to see if I could budge her wall she had set up around herself. If you know me you'll understand I thrive on challenges such as these. I really do LOVE to get to know people...I'm not just saying that, I really do...I really, really do... especially ones that people feel either intimidated by or think are to different to get to know...I love to see if I can connect somehow with them and become their friend...Most of the time I find people become mean out of fear of being rejected or seem shut off because they are really just extremely shy...they want to talk to everyone, but they just can't seem to physically. Back to the story...after a few "Hi's" and "How was your weekend" and "I totally understand, my kid does that too", I started to get to know Laura. She was just shy...and was one of the most interesting people I had ever met. She was strong...that much I got from her just by her life situation! She had a son named Sam. Sam was her light, was the reason she wanted to better herself to provide a better life for him. Laura loved Sam so much and that was what our conversations usually were focused on.

After a few days of being absent, I took it upon myself to call Laura's home to see if everything was okay. No answer. I left a few messages, but never heard back from her. I was worried, but it wasn't like we were best friends and I didn't want her to think I was stalking her, or that the school was overstepping their boundries, so I decided to wait it out.

That Monday she came in, late, through the front door. As she was walking by the front desk to get to class I stopped her and said, "Laura! Oh I am so happy to see you...I left messages to make sure you were okay and to see if I you needed to have me send your homework to you but I didn't get an answer." (So the homework thing was a quick spurt of genius, since technically I was allowed to do that...even though at the time that is not why I was calling her...why didn't I think of doing that sooner you ask? School policy was you were suppose to wait for a two week absence and then call and then send papers...in that order.)

Laura just started crying, broke down right in front of me. Sobbing, like she hadn't cried in years and was making up for it. I am a sympathetic cryer. I start crying or my eyes start watering when someone around me is crying..it is a curse I have had since I was young. I gave her a minute to just cry, mostly because I couldn't speak over the lump in my throat that had instantly formed when I saw the tears pouring down her face. "Laura, what happened?"

"I'm sorry I missed class, first of all, I have had a tough week" she got out between heaving breaths. Then she started to explain what was wrong, "Sam has been getting bullied at school all year. It has torn me apart. I don't know why the have targeted him. It started off by them taking his bike and hiding it or making the tire flat, or taking the chain off so he couldn't ride home. So I started taking him to school. Then they would taunt him, call him names, embarrass him in front of other kids. Then they physically started pushing him and doing other things to him. At first I told him just to try to ignore them and they would get bored with him, but that was before they started physically bullying him and he came home with some red marks on him and so I have talked to his teacher numerous times and finally had to go to the principal involved. I have written letters to the other boys parents, but nothing! It just kept getting worse. I started feeling responsible for it! The teacher or principal would tell me that they would keep a watch out, but if they didn't see it themselves there wasn't much they could do besides the normal discipline, they were even expelled for a few days. A few days would go by and they wouldn't bug Sam, but then it would start up again. I finally just decided I had to take drastic measures and we moved a couple of weeks ago. Sam has been in a new school for a couple of weeks and everything has seemed good, and I felt like I had made a good decision by moving. (Laura confirmed that she usually wouldn't run away from problems since she knows that sends a bad message to Sam, but she felt like she didn't have any other choice, she couldn't see Sam hurt anymore. ) Well" she said, "this past week Sams teacher said that she noticed some boys giving Sam a hard time and she had stopped it, but she wanted to let me know," she began crying again, "I asked Sam about it and he said that 'Yes' he had some boys teasing and taunting him again'. Sam hates school...I want to take him out of school and home school him, but I also need to provide for him."

We had a long discussion about it. A few weeks later I had to quit my job, but I can honestly say it put fear in my heart because DCar was only 2 years old and I was scared for him to enter into that kind of world. I kept asking myself...what makes a kid a target for bullies? Why did Sam get teased? Why him as a target? There had to be some kind of sign that only kid bullies saw...that was the only thing I could think of that would make him a target at two different schools...you know...a flashing strobe light targeting him as good bullying material, because I just don't get it...I really don't. I do remember learning about it in college in one of my classes, but at the time it was material to me...that's all...something I had to memorize to pass a test to get a good grade so that I could graduate and begin REAL LIFE, (oh how I wish I had soaked up more information now...because I'm sure I would have learned something to ease my mind!)

Help me out. Maybe you can ease my mind...maybe you can tell me of your experience...maybe you can tell me why one person is chosen over another...maybe you can help me and others who don't get it like me, understand what to do in case one of our children ever have to face it. I want to be prepared...because I am feeling sick about it to be completely honest! I did have someone tell me once that that was the reason they decided to home school their kids, but really, if someone has no other choice than to have their kids go to public school than what do THEY do? What is their solution? And what about when your child, after being home schooled, is bullied at work or something like that...WHAT IS THE SOLUTION? Is there a solution?

Please share your intelligent thoughts with me...I can honestly say that I don't know because I have never experienced that kind of hate and punishment from someone else, I have been teased, but not bullied...I know that I was blessed in that respect, but my personality screams for knowledge. So please share your thoughts and opinions! Lots of Love, Shelle

American Idol---Love, Love, Love

March 26, 2008
So tonight Chikezie went home...sorry, but I am not sad about it. My most favorite of the night before was David Cook's version of Billy Jean, I know it's not his original, but he still did it way good! So that is the video I want to show for all you non-IDOL watchers. The other favorites of that night are Brooke White, Michael Johns, and David Archuletta (but I had never heard his song before!). Happy listening...gotta love YouTube!

So Easter Activites begin...

March 21, 2008
Our family activites started on Friday with coloring eggs, we watched movies, read books relating to easter, frosted cake cookies, and making a Cookie Flower Bouquet, and then Easter Day comes and we enjoy the real reason we have Easter...we go to church...thank goodness I had a brother who loved me so much he gave his life for me because I make a lot of mistakes!
Coloring Easter eggs...always a favorite pasttime! We are not even close to professionals...LOL...PeePs just kept making MountainSport Man put her eggs in almost every color...coming out with some really funky looking eggs!
Well the next few posts are about our Easter Activites so enjoy! I at least took a shower during the weekend...but that is about the most effort I put forth to getting ready at all during Easter...gotta love it...I take "kick back and relax" to a whole new level!
The question of the holiday is: Why do we associate Bunnies and Eggs together???

PeePs got to Search for Easter Eggs

DCar had a basketball game and so he couldn't go to an Easter Egg Hunt...but that wasn't going to stop PeePs and I...we went to the ward Easter Egg hunt and had a blast. The funniest thing is they gave PeePs' age kids a headstart to pick up eggs and PeePs goes out there in the middle of a bunch of eggs and was slowly picking up the PINK ones...All our military training drills going to waste...I had to yell some words of encouragement to let her know that every color of egg had goodies just has good as the pink ones. Sometimes I wonder about that girl!!!

A few more thousand tries and we are well on our way of opening our own Cookie Decorating Flower Bouquet business...no? Well at least you are honest! It was fun...that has to count for something!

I neglected to put make-up this day...and I look like and EMO---is that what they call Goth now-a-days? Anyhow...totally ug...but Krystal and I had to attempt our sexy looks!

Easter Sunday...what did the bunny bring?

March 23, 2008
The kids waiting in anticipation before they are allowed to go into the Living room! We live with Mammy so we have to do it Mammy Rules Style...So they have their build a bear sleeping buddies and patiently waiting...waiting...waiting (I secretly think they already had peeked in, because when I woke up in the morning and went out into the Family Room to see where the kids were...they were coming down the stairs from the Living Room...I'll never know but they were pretty patient...hmmm)

Finally they get to go see what the bunny brought!

Here is an arial view of what was laid out for them...their baskets are hidden...that tricky Easter Bunny!

This is a sucker that also sports as a fan...perty cool if you ask the rugrats!

Yummy-Breakfast Daddy Style

Dad...aka...MountainSport Man (MSM)...cooked breakfast on Easter. He actually cooks breakfast every Saturday and Sunday for the rugrats! He usually makes pancakes and eggs custom ordered and if I am lucky he throws in Hash Browns! MountainSport Man is becoming quite the pancake artist!

That's a bunny and a little easter egg! The rugrats love it!

Bunny loves Pink!

Here are what the rugrats got from the Bunny to wear to church! Doesn't PeePs look like a modern Shirley Temple? And yes she did sit and let me curl her hair...even after she reached back to touch the curling iron and burnt her hand! She must have a HIGH tolerance of pain (took care of her though, we sprayed Solarcane and put a Dora bandaid on it...abra-ca-dabra she's healed)!

Tough Guys Wear Pink!-My 200th POST!

March 24, 2008

So...DCar as he will be known now... taught me a lesson the other day after picking him up from school, but I have to start at the first! We were shopping at Wally World (Walmart) when we came upon this shirt in the little guy's section. Instantly DCar shouts, "Mom please can I get that shirt, it is so cool!"...(he had another pink shirt that he wore until I HAD to throw it away because it had too many holes and enough stains on it that it looked purposely ti-dyed! His Dad wears pink, his uncles wear pink, so to him...guys wore pink). It wasn't very expensive so I decided that I would get it for the rugrat.

The next morning when I got back from work he already had the shirt on ready to go to school. (In my mind I was thinking, oh boy, I hope he doesn't get teased and his whole world blows up in front of his face in a matter of 2 and 1/2 hours because some stupid kid, very ignorant, kindergartener or WORSE older elementary kids teases him and ruins his idyllic pink wearing world, he'll think the guy's in his life lied to him to for man initiation or something...my heart was already hurting...). I got him his breakfast, he brushed his teeth, we fo-hawked his hair, gave me a quick kiss...and practically skipped all the way to school...He was SOOOO excited to wear that shirt. I didn't have the heart to warn him about kids that might tease him and be rude because they didn't know that it was okay for boys to wear pink...that it wasn't a color designed just for girls...that guys actually look really GOOD in pink, especially with a tan and jeans and flip-flops...yummy...sigh...oh sorry, I'm getting carried away again...so I opted to not say anything and see how things went.

I picked DCar up from school and had to talk to his teacher about treats for DCar's birthday. When we were done discussing the teacher said, "Oh by the way, DCar was teased today a little for his pink shirt".

I was like, "Oh, okay..."--um...what do you say to that?

DCar was already in the van so I got in and turned around to talk to him. Amazingly he was smiling at me...so began my lesson...

"So how was your day?"

"It was awe-some". he said, still smiling.

I very slowly asked, "Did anyone say anything about your shirt?"

He loses his smile and says, "Yea".

My heart breaks a little and I softly say, "What did they say?"

He looks me straight in the eye, very brave like and says, "They called me an idiot for wearing a pink shirt".

Now my mother instincts start and I can feel the heat of my temper starting to take hold and I am thinking of different ways I can find these kids and teach them an early lesson on the famous saying, if you don't have anything nice to say...don't say anything at all, and I wasn't going to be very nice about it...I asked, "What did you do?"

He shrugs his shoulders and says, "Nothing. I don't care what they think, my shirt is cool, so I just walked away! They use to be my friends, they are in Mrs. Miller's class, but now they are not my friends."

Ah-ha I thought...Mrs. Miller's class...well that narrow's it down to about 30 something kids...now was it boys or girls that said it? Hmmm...I wonder if it is girls if I will be a little more lenient with my intended corporal punishment for saying anything mean to my little boy? Nah...they all deserve the worst...so I continued, "Didn't you want to call them idiot or at least say something mean back?"

He looks at me with his BIG BLUE eyes, crinkled slightly at the corners, with a look of disgust on his face and says, "Mom, that isn't what Jesus would do!"

That was it...what else was there to say! I want to take credit for his young wisdom, but I simply can't. Instantly my plan for revenge on the kids was gone and replacing it was pride. That was serioulsy one of the best moments ever! My question is: Who's parenting who?

The famous shirt! He wear it at least once a week...more if I wash it more!

I have no idea what PeePs is doing here...she looks posessed!

PS>my www.blokthoughts.blogspot.com was flagged for looking like potential blog spam...? huh? Anyhow, I hadn't switched it over yet so they assumed maybe that I was using it for whatever? Well, it takes four days for them to review the blog and then it is opened for business...so I have to wait 4 days to switch it over...I'll let you know when!

Who's lips R more perfect?

After MountainSport Man and I started dating and being comfortable with each other we have had this..well this...for lack of a better word...a disagreement. I don't remember how or why it started or why we even keep it up, well I know why I keep it up...because it keeps things interesting and it bugs him, :), but anyhow before I get carried away...

MountainSport Man and I have this disagreement where he thinks his lips are more perfect and I believe my lips are more perfect...lol...it's so funny...but then its not...shouldn't he just say my lips are more perfect than his by default? He should want to always please me, right? (I mean secretly his lips are perfect...perfectly kissable to me)...anyway,to my advantage, MSM decided to take up Mountain Biking when we moved down here and his second ride out he went on a technically advanced ride (not knowing it was advanced) and fell, tumbled, and biffed it down the mountain and cut his lip open. It had to be butterflied closed. MSM now admits that I have the most perfect lips in all the Blok world...(because of his scar on his lips) yes! Success at last!

He has taken that title away from me...evil man... his reason being, a few weeks ago, as you have probably seen in the last few posts, I had an ugly cold sore on the side of my PERFECT lips. Well it has finally gone away...and just when I was suppose to regain my title of MOST PERFECT LIPS, my retarded and dumb body decided to curse me AGAIN with mouth herpes on my lips! AGAIN!!! SUCKS, SUCKS, AND ROYALLY SUCKS...So now I have to live a week or so more before I regain my title...and not touch the ugly thing in hopes of not getting a herpes scar! Oh and no kissing until its gone...did I mention it sucks?

Whomever kissed me when I was young, because I have had this for as long as I can remember, and passed this horrible disease on to me...well you are...a bad, bad person. That is all I have to say!

Date with Mom and Dad

March 18, 2008

Well we have decided that Birthday Parties are just TOO expensive to have every year! So MountainSport Man and I have made the decision that on their EVEN birthday's, they get a date with us where they get to choose where they eat and what activity we do! So DCar LOVED the idea! For dinner he chose to go to Samari 21 (a sushi and Steak place). Then he wanted ice cream, which was fine with MSM because he has been craving "Golden Spoon" since it came to town. DCar then wanted to see Spiderwick Chronicles. I was way tired and we had a late dinner...so they opted to take me home because I was SO tired from work and not enough hours of sleep (my bed was sounding so delightful) and then MSM and DCar went to the LATE show...DCar felt so big! He kept saying the next day, "Thank you Mom for coming on my date with me!" He loved it!

Here we are at dinner!

They brought a Chocolate cheesecake for his birthday! He was so excited!

Doesn't that look sooo good! I finished eating my steak and the little brat had eaten ALL the cheesecake!
